Folk Guitar Festival

Folk guitar lovers gathered yesterday in Irapuru, at the west of São Paulo state. They went to check the 4th Annual Meeting of Folk Guitar Players and Folk Singers.
For the ones who play the folk guitar it is more than a musical instrument, it is a passion. ‘If you have it in your blood, if you are really Brazilian, you are a folk guitar lover. It is natural, it is born in your blood’- said the folk guitar player Gedeão da Viola.
Those are just some folk guitar lovers assembled in a good folk guitar circle, which is the thing that gives them the greatest pleasure.
All the musicians went to Irapuru to take part in the Annual Folk Guitar Meeting, an event that is becoming a tradition. This year the meeting had a special guest, the singer and composer Socorro Lira who came from Paraíba to show some of the northeastern folk culture.
‘We also have a huge wealth to show and to contribute in the appraisal of folk culture’- said Socorro.
Because of the rain, this year the meeting took place at the city’s Sports Gymnasium. More than 20 duos participated. The organizers decided to amplify the Folk Guitar Festival. They produced the first regional folk fair which exhibited handcrafts and performances of giant puppets. It is a recovery of the culture and traditions of country people.
