Júlio
Santin
The "violeiro" Júlio Santin was born in the
country side of São Paulo state, region of Alta Paulista
(western of São Paulo state). He is agriculturits'
son and lived a great part of his life in a farm in Irapuru.
He graduated in medicine at the Federal University of Mato
Grosso do Sul in 1989.
He was enraptured by the sound of the folk guitar when he
met Aldo Efigênio dos Santos, "Efigeninho",
a famous "violeiro" from Dracena. He learned to
play and to build his own instruments. Through time he has
improved on his technique, faced challenges, as he has been
living between music and medicine.
He has been dedicating himself to promote and preserve folk
music in the region where he was born. He presides the Cultural
Association Caipirapuru, NGO established by "violeiros"
and admirers of this kind of music. He is a collaborator in
the holding of the "Annual meeting of Violeiros and singers
of Irapuru", which is in its sixth edition.
As a musician, he has played beside Gedeão da Viola,
Rio Pardo, Zeca Collares, Fernando Deghi, Levi Ramiro, among
others. He is launching the instrumental CD of "viola
caipira" "Sentimento Matuto". Levi Ramiro takes
part in the CD (as a partner in some of the compositions),
as well as the percussionists Carlinhos Ferreira and Donisete
Juvino and the couple Mauro Silva and Oliveira.
